Lunation/Easter Sunday Sutra
Condescension and Ascension: We are the ones we've been waiting for.
Today is the last quarter moon, Easter Sunday for the Christian world, the eighth day of Passover (Pesach), and the seventh day of the Omer (the 49-day period between Passover and Shavuot).
They say that last quarter moons are a time we naturally do inner-work, as we cross the mid-point between the full and new moon for the month.
Tonight, just as the last quarter moon is exactly squaring the sun (at 1°12’ Aquarius/Taurus), several planets and asteroids will form something called a “Grand Sextile” in the sky. This rare planetary configuration makes the shape of a “Star of David,” also called a “Merkaba”.
A Merkaba is a sacred geometric shape, often visualized as two interpenetrating tetrahedra, that holds significance in various spiritual and esoteric traditions. It's often depicted as a three-dimensional Star of David and is believed to represent a vehicle of light and energy. In Jewish mysticism, the Merkaba is associated with the divine chariot of God, while in other traditions, it symbolizes personal spiritual growth and ascension.
The term “Merkaba” is linguistically rich, blending ancient Hebrew and Egyptian roots. In Hebrew, it means “chariot” or “throne of God,” while in Egyptian, it can be broken down into three parts: Mer (light), Ka (spirit), and Ba (body).
A vehicle for the blending of the condescension of God and the ascension of humans. Such a beautiful metaphor for a day that is meaningful to so many. The merkaba is also a challenge for humans to reach supra-human functionality. Like David fighting the giant Goliath. Before his battle, it is said that God placed the Grand Sextile Merkaba configuration on his shield as he faced an insurmountable moment where he was required to show up against all odds. That’s where the Star of David received its name.
In the Merkaba, we see everything from our shadow come to light; we cannot tolerate it for very long, it would be too intense. However, in a Merkaba, we simultaneously experience the condescension of God-Source elevating us for ascended awareness. Ascended awareness comes with accountability, while lifting us beyond anything we could otherwise bear. It’s a geometric resolution of these paradoxes that can otherwise cause all sorts of spiritual bypassing, self-aggrandizement, and megalomania.
The Merkaba is embodied simply in the Easter story of Mary, in complete despair, at the empty tomb:
”But Mary stood without at the sepulchre weeping: and as she wept, she stooped down, and looked into the sepulchre,
And seeth two angels in white sitting, the one at the head, and the other at the feet, where the body of Jesus had lain.
And they say unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? She saith unto them, Because they have taken away my Lord, and I know not where they have laid him.
And when she had thus said, she turned herself back, and saw Jesus standing, and knew not that it was Jesus.
Jesus saith unto her, Woman, why weepest thou? whom seekest thou? She, supposing him to be the gardener, saith unto him, Sir, if thou have borne him hence, tell me where thou hast laid him, and I will take him away.
Jesus saith unto her, Mary. She turned herself, and saith unto him, Rabboni; which is to say, Master.”1
The despair and the ascension together in a single moment. That is indeed the gestalt of the Merkaba as she stood before the Christ (born himself of God and woman).
For me, looking at the chart of tonight's celestial Merkaba configuration, I see a blend of condemnation for the world and those who seek power without conscience, and simultaneously, communal healing. I can almost hear the words "I see what is happening to you" from God-Source for the millions being harmed.
In the garden story with Christ and the Priestess, Mary Magdalene, the story continues:
”Jesus saith unto her, Touch me not; for I am not yet ascended to my Father.”
When we trace the phrase “Touch me not” in ancient language, we discover that its actual interpretation means: “It’s time to let go,” implying that Mary was actually being embraced within Jesus’ arms.
He was not only telling her to let go, he was telling her to let God.
It was time for her to do what she could with the strength that embrace had given her. It was not her ascension; it was His. Her work was here, no matter how challenging that would be.
This last quarter moon, Easter/Passover Sunday, Merkaba, gives us the chance to be embraced, to let go, and then go and do what we need to in order to save this sorry world from itself.
I teach my Soul Weather PRO™ group of Bodhi Yoga™ teachers to follow the advice often given by Rick Levine: “To think cosmically and act locally.”
The world’s beautiful and bitter cry is overwhelming at present, yet feeling powerless is not an option. So we keep seeing all of it, and then do what we can to save our corner of the world in ways that are within our power. In this collective accumulation, our part will be one of ascended strength in stressful times.
I invite you to take a moment, follow the breath, and receive a needed lift. This lovely Easter Sunday Merkaba evening is a profound opportunity to experience a few moments of otherworldly divine communion.
I will hold space this evening between 7:09 and 7:50 p.m. for all humans to receive the ascending embrace so desperately needed to strengthen us now. Feel free to join me in meditation from wherever you are.
It is good to bring one thing to your meditation that you’re ready to let go, and one thing you would like to receive help and empowerment to accomplish, no matter how insurmountable.
Namaste & Pāsḥā Shmāḥ.
